Stormwater Management
AKRO collaborates with Cazenovia West, the Erie County Office of GIS, and the WNY Stormwater Coalition to improve decision-making and public awareness of wastewater management and combined sewer overflows.
We provide a variety of services including ecosystem mapping, stakeholder analysis, open data analytics, interactive dashboard development, and the use of human-centered design for outreach and engagement.

Interactive Dashboards for Decision-Making
This dashboard shows relative amounts of wastewater discharges in Western New York since July 2018. Explore the datasets by choosing municipalities, rainfall, and reasons for wastewater discharges. View the interactive version by clicking here.
Data Warehousing for Social Impact
New datasets are being made public every day by municipalities, state governments, research organizations, and universities. Large-scale complex problems require collaborative and flexible third-party data management. The Wastewater Warehouse is an example of a data warehouse purpose-built to solve a problem.
Interactive Chatbots
Talking to interested constituents about specific issues is an important opportunity to use the power of the crowd to improve our understanding of problems. Automated text messages can be used to collect surveys, feedback, and solve operational information problems. Click here to learn more about chatbots from Cazenovia West.
